Welcome to Round 3
PEAC courses are offered in three rounds each year. In this round, most courses run for half a day each week, either morning or afternoon, over 11 sessions. Some full day courses are also available and run for five or six sessions. A small number of online courses are offered as well. Find out more about the PEAC program here.

Course Selection Instructions
Login to the PEAC App using the following information:
- Student’s name (as written on their school enrolment form)
- Home School
- Date of Birth
You will be prompted to select 4 out of the courses on offer. The chance of course placement is limited by entering fewer courses. We will do our best to place your child into one of your preferred options but in the event it is not possible, you will be notified and asked to select another option.
Consider :
- Transport availability – Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to and from the PEAC venue, except in the case where the PEAC course is located at the student’s home school
- Specialist lessons – eg School of Instrumental Music
Additional Information
- As long as the course preferences are submitted before the closing date, the actual time of submission has no effect on the sorting process.
- Use a parent email address when requested. This will be used for confirmation of your preference submission.
- If you have any difficulties entering your preferences, please see your school’s PEAC Coordinator for assistance.
- If the problem cannot be resolved, submit the student’s preference by email to PEAC Admin including full name, date of birth, school and parent email.
Course Placement Notification informing you of the venue, day and time of the course into which your child has been enrolled will be sent to the parent via Compass.
Following Rounds
Enrolment for following rounds opens towards the end of each round. Schools and parents will be notified of this beforehand.
Carpooling Option
Currently, carpooling is not recommended. However, the option to request carpooling remains available in the enrolment application. Where a formal carpooling request is made during the selection process, we may be able to allocate students to the same course.
For a carpooling request to be recognised by the application, all parents involved must agree and enter identical information. The following conditions must be met.
- Students must attend the same school.
- The same course preferences must be entered in the same order.
- All students involved in the carpool must be listed, with the correct spelling of each student’s full name.
Carpooling plans must be discussed with the other families involved before submitting a request. If information is entered incorrectly or inconsistently, the request may not be recognised during the computer sorting process.
The system will only consider carpooling requests if both students list each other in the carpooling section of the application.
Informal carpooling arrangements can be organised between parents at any time, independent of the enrolment process.
Course Selection
Only enter courses that you can and will attend.
There are five rounds of courses across the two year program, and students will have multiple opportunities to reapply for most courses. Families are encouraged to remain open and flexible when selecting preferences, as all courses are designed to be engaging and to develop critical and creative thinking skills.
Course Placement
Each round, almost 1,000 students are sorted and placed into approximately 60 courses.
The primary goal of the sorting process is to place all students into one of their preferred courses. To support this, families are strongly encouraged to select multiple preferences. Selecting only one preference does not guarantee a place in that course and can, in some cases, increase the likelihood of a non placement if that course is oversubscribed.
The computer based sorting program works through students’ preferences from first to fourth in order to maximise the chance of placing every student. Students in Year 6 are weighted slightly higher to support their opportunity to receive a higher order preference. Placement into any one of a student’s listed preferences is considered a successful placement.
Online Courses
The PEAC Online program offers courses to PEAC students who have difficulty accessing courses at the regular PEAC Centres. The online learning environment used in PEAC Online is the same one as used by the online secondary selective program for country students.
By participating in an online PEAC course students have the opportunity to:
- develop specific course content outcomes from a variety of Learning Areas;
- develop skills in personal self-management and using information and communication technologies to share their learning; and
- work with other like-minded peers from across Western Australia in an innovative learning environment.
Students should be aware that it requires considerable self-discipline to complete an online course and that the activities are challenging.
Students need regular access to a reliable computer with Internet access and reasonably up to date programs in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Classroom teachers are encouraged to utilise the online courses as part of their provision for their gifted students, by allocating at least an hour of class time per week for the students to work on their online course. This is flexible and can be negotiated between the classroom teacher and student.
Online Learning Platforms
Many PEAC courses incorporate the use of computer based applications such as Moodle, Seesaw and Office 365 Class Notebook to enhance a student’s learning experience. The provision of these secure, private online environments enhances teacher and student interaction and creates a secure online journal where students can document and reflect on what they are learning in class. Details specific to each course will be provided by the class teacher.
