We are very pleased to be offering a series of Professional Learning sessions in tandem with our Y1 EYE withdrawal program for Department of Education teachers in the North Metropolitan Education Region.
TARGET AUDIENCE: K-Y3 teachers
PURPOSE: For teachers to receive and discuss key information about students who need or may benefit from extension – how to spot them and ways to meet their needs.
All sessions will run on Thursdays from 3.30pm – 5.30pm at Creaney PEAC Centre, Kingsley.
Teachers are encouraged to attend all sessions in the series if they are able to.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 12th– HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT
Is there more potential in your classroom than meets the eye? The characteristics and behaviours of able students is a much misunderstood area. This session will focus on examining and discussing some of the less obvious indicators of great potential in young children- and how to work with them in the classroom.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19th – P4C: GIVE IT A GO
Building on the previous session, Philosophy for Children (P4C) is an internationally recognised strategy for drawing out hidden potential and awakening young minds. Introducing higher order questioning through the medium of picture books is definitely a strategy you should try. The opportunity to borrow P4C teaching packs containing a book and teaching notes is included in this session.
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 26th- – HOM: THE HABITS YOU NEED
A key component of both the EYE and PEAC Programs, come and discuss with us the benefits (for yourself and your students) of Costa and Kallick’s Habits of Mind. Again, there will be links to the previous sessions and teaching resources to take away.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 24th – TIME FOR REVIEW
After time to allow you to process the previous sessions and apply them to your classroom, this session will be focused on reviewing and sharing classroom experiences that have resulted from this series of professional learning. A time to raise questions and make plans for the next school year.
It is anticipated that each session will provide opportunities for teachers to meet and network with each other, including those that have nominated students for the EYE program this year or in past years.
