Course Overview
How can we grow food beyond our planet? In this hands on, exploratory course, you will investigate the science and challenges of sustaining plant life in space, from microgravity to radiation and limited resources. Thinking like a scientist and systems designer, you will explore how plants respond to extreme environments and what is required to support life on the Moon, Mars and beyond. Working in collaboration with the ARC Centre for Excellence and its partners, you will design, test and refine ideas for growing food in off world conditions, analysing data and evaluating the effectiveness of different approaches. This course extends your thinking by challenging you to solve complex, real world problems, make connections across scientific disciplines and develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future beyond Earth.
