Course Overview
Inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Welcome to the Shire invites gifted learners to explore the art of world-building through inquiry-based learning. Students investigate how fictional worlds are shaped by geography, language, culture, history and storytelling, analysing extracts from Tolkien’s writing to understand how meaning and depth are created. Using critical and creative thinking skills, students design an original world of their own, supported by visual planning, written explanation and creative storytelling, while reflecting on and justifying their design choices.
