Course Overview
In the PEAC course ‘Bling It On’ students learn how jewellery and adornments have been worn by people from different cultures throughout the ages. They come to understand how they may represent wealth, power, fashion, faith, politics, technical innovations or love.
Two incursions are included. Megan, from `The Bead Company`, instructs students how to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets using specialist tools. Mrs Faithful, a high school art teacher, shows how resin can be used to create pendants and brooches.
On an excursion to Perth Mint, we witness a gold pour and view precious pink and yellow diamonds, luminescent South Sea pearls and highly prized Australian opals.
The students create mood boards, from which they derive inspiration for their individual pieces of work.
The course culminates with an exhibition, to which all parents, carers, grandparents and close friends are invited. The students certainly `BLING IT ON!`
